Laser Eye Surgery |
Laser eye surgery technology now makes it possible for many people with nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism to achieve clear, natural vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses.
Our goal is to present all the facts so that you can make an informed decision about refractive surgery.
We can provide information about:
- who qualifies for laser surgery;
- how laser surgery works;
- the safety, risks and benefits of the procedure;
- the latest technology and procedures utilized;
- statistics on surgical outcomes; and
- additional literature and videos on laser surgery.
The practitioners of Calgary Optometry Centre take an active role in your laser surgery experience. Talk to us about preoperative evaluations, surgical scheduling and post-operative care.
What is the Latest Technology in Laser Refractive Surgery?
At this time, there are two options for laser refractive surgery. PRK has been performed since 1987, while LASIK has been performed since the early 1990s. The introduction of LASIK has made a technological impact on two fronts. First, those patients who have moderate to high prescriptions now have the option of achieving clear, natural vision through refractive surgery (see Candidates). Secondly, the healing process occurs much more quickly than with PRK.
